Escalators suit floors where a lift queue would form: showrooms, commercial ground-to-first runs, and anywhere footfall is continuous rather than in bursts. The rise, the step width and the available truss space are surveyed on site before anything is quoted, because the civil opening usually decides what is possible.

Comb-plate, handrail-entry and step-sag protection are fitted as standard, with emergency stops at both landings and the balustrade finish chosen to suit the floor it lands on. Step chains, handrails and the drive are then inspected on a logged maintenance cycle rather than after a fault, which is the only way an escalator stays available through a trading day.
